Elevator Safety

Safety tips:

  • Watch your step when entering and exiting the elevator cab.
  • Do not touch the doors.  Use the “Door Open” button to hold the elevator open for others.  Never use a briefcase, your arm/leg, or any other object to try to prevent the doors from closing.  This may cause personal injury or damage to the equipment, since the sensors may not have enough time to react to the object in question.
  • When transporting large loads, always ensure the weight is centered in the elevator car.
  • Passengers closest to the door should exit first.
  • NEVER use elevators during fires, electricity blackouts, or power shortages.

Should the elevator stop between floors, please follow these steps:
  • Remain calm.  Elevators are equipped with safety features designed to prevent them from falling.
  • Use the telephone or intercom to request help.  This will automatically connect you to the emergency answering service.
  • Please provide the attendant with the following information:
  • Building Name
  • Elevator Cab Number
  • Description of the Problem
  • The procedure for responding to your call will be as follows:
  • The emergency answering service dispatches a technician.
  • Then it contacts the Building Security which is in the building 24/7.
  • Building Security contacts the Building Management office.
  • Building Security and/or Building Management contacts the passengers via intercom to the elevator.
  • The Building team keeps in communication with the passengers until the elevator technician arrives.
  • If there is someone in distress, pregnant, ill, or injured, the Fire Department is called.
  • You may continue calling the answering service for response status.
  • Always wait for assistance. Never try to climb out of a stalled elevator unless assisted by trained emergency personnel.

In case of a building emergency, DO NOT use the elevators.  Exit the building via the stairways.  If in the elevator, do not panic.  Tower elevators are designed to return to the 1st floor Great Room lobby when a fire alarm is activated.
